Five years of climate action in the North of England

Community Interest Company, Climate Acton North, has marked its five-year anniversary by staging an Eco Fest, which also celebrated its corporate sponsorship deal with Dalton Park Outlet Shopping Destination.

The social enterprise, which was established in 2017 by Sharon Lashley and Jennifer Clair Robson who, after working on a wide variety of climate issues throughout their careers, pooled their experience and expertise to empower people, communities, and businesses to act now and ensure a sustainable future.

Half a decade later, its range of initiatives, training, and events are galvanising people, businesses, and communities to take the meaningful action needed to fight the climate crisis.

Just a handful of highlights include: scooping a prestigious award for its innovative North East Action for Rivers (NE4R) initiative; creating Pollinator Parks® for the North East BIC and Dalton Park Outlet Shopping Destination; receiving a donation from Waitrose for its Global Wilders® initiative, and securing a lead coordination role for the Rewilding Network in the North of England.

Climate Action North’s Managing Director, Sharon Lashley, said: “No one can tackle the climate emergency alone and no one must be left behind, which is why our wide range of projects ensures that there is something for everyone. We want as many people as possible to learn how to take climate action that can easily be applied in everyday life.”

The social enterprise has also developed an online toolkit for businesses to analyse their climate risks, formed a Net Zero Matters networking group with a membership of over 90 businesses, and launched a training academy offering a suite of CPD-accredited training courses with a focus on helping individuals and businesses tackle the climate crisis.

Sharon said: “Business as usual is simply not an option. We will continue to mobilise and inspire businesses, along with communities, schools, and individuals, to take the necessary actions so desperately need to keep us within the grasp of a safe liveable future.

“It is easy to be completely overwhelmed by this, but we help businesses and communities take climate action and find solutions through our easy, no-nonsense, plain-speaking, and achievable initiatives.
