Climate Action North supercharges efforts to tackle climate crisis
Community Interest Company Climate Action North is supporting three key campaigns that are all focused on tackling the climate and ecological crisis.
Great Big Green Week, the Marine Conservation Society Great British Beach Clean week, and the Global Week to #Act4SDGs all take place during September with thousands of events and activities taking place to help communities take action to tackle climate change, protect green spaces, and encourage others to get involved.
Great Big Green Week runs from 18 to 26 September and, as part of the campaign, Climate Action North will join an Autumn food festival at Friends of Ropner Park on Sunday 19 September and Climate Action North Managing Director Sharon Lashley will give a talk on the benefits of community rewilding at the Festival of Thrift on Sunday 26 September.
This year’s Great British Beach Clean will take place between 17 and 26 September 2021. A citizen science event, it sees hundreds of beach cleans take place up and down the UK with the litter data collected used to support the Marine Conservation Society’s work.
To mark the campaign, Climate Action North will hold a CSR corporate litter pick at the North East BIC in Sunderland as part of its award-winning North East Action for Rivers (NE4R) initiative which focuses on cleaning up areas of the North East Rivers.
Climate Action North is also supporting the UN SDG Action Campaign to join the global movement to drive action for the Sustainable Development Goals, which takes place from 17 to 28 September.
The #ACT4SDGs campaign aims to drive collective action and keep up the momentum in the lead up to COP26 in Glasgow. All actions will be captured and visualised in a global heat map which can be filtered down by country, region, SDG and sector, to show how collective action can lead to great change around the world.
Climate Action North’s Managing Director, Sharon Lashley, said: “September is shaping up to be a very exciting and important month for positive climate actions and we’re pleased to be taking part in these campaigns and effectively supercharging our efforts to tackle the climate crisis. Climate change is one of the most important issues in our lifetime, and the time is now to do everything we can to take practical action that works.”
There is no time to lose. Taking climate action today has never been so critical.
